Update to London Capital and Finance Plc investors – 15 August 2019

Investor in – London Capital and Finance Plc

15 August 2019

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to you from the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). The SFO is a specialist public authority that investigates and prosecutes the most serious or complex fraud, bribery and corruption cases. The SFO and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) are investigating actions relating to the sale of mini-bonds and ISA bonds by London Capital and Finance Plc (LCF).

We are writing to you because we understand that you invested in products sold by LCF. We ask you to be patient with us whilst we work to gather the facts. Investigations of this size and complexity may take a long time to complete.

What you should do

We need your help with our investigation. We ask you:

  • To keep safe any paperwork, including letters, emails and any financial records you have in relation to your investment.
  • Not to share this information with other investors or publish it on online platforms.
  • If you have not already done so, to complete the SFO’s online questionnaire at https://www.sfo.gov.uk/cases/london-capital-finance-plc/

In addition, other organisations have published online questionnaires in order to gather information to assist with their separate enquiries into LCF. They are:

The FSCS exists to protect customers of financial services firms that have failed. Your responses will help the FSCS understand what information or advice LCF may have provided to customers.

What we will do

As part of our investigation, we will assess the information that you and other investors provide. This will help us build a more detailed and comprehensive picture of what has happened. We may contact you directly if we need to clarify the information you have given or ask further questions.

Further information

We aim to post an update on our website every few months and we encourage you to check the website regularly. You can also check the FCA website for updates at www.fca.org.uk.

Please understand that this is a current investigation and for legal reasons we may not be able to give you as much information as you would like.

Support

We are sorry that you may have been a victim of fraud. Please be assured that the SFO will thoroughly investigate this case and, where possible, bring offenders to justice.

If you would like some help, included with this letter is an Information Sheet listing organisations that can offer support to victims of crime and organisations that can offer advice on financial matters.

Thank you for your assistance with our investigation.

Yours sincerely

The Serious Fraud Office
