Have you received a suspicious letter, phone call or email claiming to be from the Serious Fraud Office?
Advice for people who have been contacted by someone claiming to be from the SFO.
The SFO communicates with individuals:
- by telephone (for security reasons our number is withheld)
- in writing (on official headed paper)
- by email (from someone with @sfo.gov.uk at the end of the email address)
- by fax (on official headed paper).
If you receive a communication that claims to be from us, but which you find suspicious, please forward electronic communications to [email protected], and hard copies to the Correspondence Unit, Serious Fraud Office, 2-4 Cockspur Street, London, SW1Y 5BS. We will check the authenticity of the correspondence and get back to you as soon as possible.
If you are concerned about the authenticity of a phone call, confirm the name of the caller and tell them that you will call them back. To do this please dial our switchboard on 0207 239 7272 and ask to be put through to the named individual. We will then be able to confirm whether the name you have is an SFO employee.
Action Fraud is the UK’s national fraud and internet crime reporting centre. It provides a central point of contact for information about fraud and financially motivated internet crime.
