The Serious Fraud Office is to conduct an investigation into Independent Insurance.
Following a referral on 18 June 2001 by the Financial Services Authority, the Director of the Serious Fraud Office has decided to investigate the affairs of Independent Insurance Company Limited.
Notes for editors:
1. The Serious Fraud Office is a government department. It is headed by the Director (Rosalind Wright) who exercises powers under the superintendence of the Attorney General. These powers are derived from the Criminal Justice Act (1987).
2. The role of the SFO is to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged fraud that are considered to be large or complex in nature, cases that are deemed to require the combined legal and investigative case management methods, resources and powers of the SFO.
